Running the activity

Having now decided upon your Smash session, here are the planning materials for the lesson itself. All of these documents are provided in a format for printing out.

Curricular aims and objectives lists the appropriate aims and objectives that are covered in the Smash lesson.

Lesson plan is laid out simply including pre-message stream and post-message stream activities. An essential document to read.

The script shows the exact text of the messages which will appear on the day. These can be printed out ready to give to the children in the unlikely event of technical difficulties. (Teacher password required)

Annotated script gives indications of what children should be doing on receipt of each message. Have it handy on the day. (Teacher password required)

Maps of Millford showing the network of streets leading to the scene of the accident. Print out the attached vehicle and person symbols. The children can use these as pieces to help them work out where each witness was standing.

Briefing sheet one The printable worksheet given to the children at the beginning of the scenario.

Children's notes The children are required to take notes during Smash. This blank worksheet gives the children a format to use during the session.

Example of Children's notes This example gives guidance to the teacher about what kind of information the children should be logging.

Briefing sheet two A printable worksheet to help the groups prepare for their presentation.
