Letters
Using the Smash Scenario as a stimulus, children should write a letter to the local council persuading them to make certain safety improvements to the area of the accident.
As part of the discussion following Smash, children should consider how the area could be made more safe - changes to the speed limit, lighting, crossing facilities, parking facilities, etc.
Use word or sentence level time to plan letters carefully making an appropriate vocabulary list. Aspects of formal writing and use of connectives should also be encouraged.
Create a whole class plan of the letter to be written.
- Who will the letter be addressed to?
- How shall you address this person?
- Who will the letter be from?
(Encourage creativity - use people from the scenario and important members of the community.)
