How does Murder work?

The information, in the form of interviews with witnesses, comes in a continuous stream from the Internet. It is disjointed, out of sequence and sometimes puzzling. The task is to make sense of the data to construct a working hypothesis that explains what happened and which includes all the facts.

The students work in groups as Criminal Investigators. Each group receives and interprets messages. These gradually reveal information about series of incidents. In the process of organising the data and working out what DID happen, pupils become very involved. There is argument and discussion: theories are formed and theories challenged.

At the end of the lesson, each group of investigators mounts a short presentation, detailing their view of the last few hours of the victim's life, how it was cut short, why and by whom.
