Mine Reference: 100/B
I am at the bottom of the shaft. It is dark apart from the flicker of the men's Davy Lamps as the move past me. There is much noise and movement with the miners shouting to one another at they go about their work. A train of full tubs has arrived ready for loading onto the lifting platform. Lowered empty tubs are being moved away into the darkness.
I observe that the pump which raises water from the lowered tanks is working satisfactorily. This is powered by a water wheel at the top of the shaft.
By the light of my lamp I can see a short heading running West from here. It ends only a short distance away at the smaller air shaft. To the East, a long roadway heads off into the darkness.
I can go Up, East or
West.
