Mine Reference: 50/B
I am now standing in an empty coal tub, holding onto the chains and being lowered down the pit shaft. I can see a circle of daylight above me. It gets smaller and smaller as we go deeper down the shaft.
With my lamp lit I inspect the walls of the shaft as we go down. The walls are lined with brick and are very smooth although the shaft is quite old. It is important that it is kept in good repair to avoid accidents. There are no signs of cracking or broken bricks to report.
The iron loading platform with rails on which our tub travels is well maintained and the ride was quiet and smooth.
I can go Up or
Down.
