Accident is a Citizenship-based project with strong curricular links to English, Literacy, Drama and PSHE.
Pupils work in role as Police Officers, dealing with public enquiries, complaints, accident and incident reports. Using the unique ‘Digicom’ system, they must download their webmail and interrogate vehicle and criminal databases to discover who is responsible for the dangerous traffic ‘Accident’ in Seyster. Pupils are also required to deal with the repercussions by setting up appropriate diversions and considering how to inform the public of this danger. The project is designed to motivate and involve pupils in ‘real life’ situations and dramas. Pupils are encouraged to question their role in society and look at how the impact of their own actions and those of others have far reaching consequences in the community. Accident involves working with the local Police, Fire and Ambulance services and liaising with the public and community officials (such as Council members). This unique and exciting project gives pupils the opportunity to become ‘informed, thoughtful and responsible citizens who are aware of their duties and rights.’ (National Curriculum, Citizenship KS3/4) |
